In April, a Thousand Flowers

“In April, a Thousand Flowers” – Grândola celebrates April with flowers on the table

“In April, a Thousand Flowers,” an initiative promoted by the Municipality of Grândola as part of the April Commemorations, will take place throughout the coming month and explores the coincidence of the symbol of the 25th April revolution being a flower – the red carnation, of the annual celebrations occurring in full spring, and of the trends in new cuisine, which increasingly resort to the inclusion of new products, including edible flowers, in the most varied culinary creations.

On the first day of the initiative, the Municipal Library and Archive hosts the writer and poet Maria Edite Rodrigues for the lecture ”The portrait of the flowers of my path and my garden”.
Throughout the month, flowers are the theme for a series of workshops. At the Artisans' House, you'll learn the art of making felt on the afternoon of April 15th. This Saturday morning, at the Municipal Market, Vanda Figueiredo will explain an easy, quick, and economical way to make natural juices and jams; and on the 22nd, Carla Pereira, from Monte Primavera, will reveal the secrets and uses of edible flowers.

Nature walks are once again taking centre stage in “Em Abril Flores Mil”. The first, themed “Coastal Plants”, will take place on the council's coastline, in the dune area and Lagoa de Melides, with the participation of Miguel Boeiro and Mónica Martins. On the 29th, Herdade da Ribeira Abaixo, in the Serra de Grândola, is the chosen location for an insect walk, with the participation of Projeto Tagis.

The Casa Mostra de Produtos Endógenos welcomes renowned chef Jorge Rodrigues on the 2nd, who in the show cooking “Magic and flavour at Easter - lamb and flowers” will share suggestions for preparing and plating dishes alluding to the Easter season. This municipal space, a privileged spot for watching the sunset, welcomes the Primavera Sunset on the 29th with floral drinks prepared by bartender Wilson Pires/Cocktails em Verso, snacks and tapas by chef André Lopes, to the sound of music by DJ Senõr Pelota.
As in previous editions, a Gastronomic Fair dedicated to flowers will be held from 22 April to 1 May, in participating restaurants in the municipality, with the programme to be announced soon.
